![]() ![]() If you are walking on heel, then the load is fully borne by the heel and not transmitted to metatarsals. If you walk on sand and look at the foot print, you will undstand how the weight in transmitted from hind foot to forefoot Now if there is evidence of healing and no displacement then partial weight bearing is good as it stimulates the injured area, causing increased blood flow and hence speeds up the healing process.Īs far as weight bearing mechanisms are concerned, the heel bears the brunt of body weight and then transmits it through the lateral side, i mean 4th and 5th metatarsals to the metatarsal heads which then take the load. In my practice i have seen people walking within 3-4 weeks and even those who were limping after 2 years.Īnyhow from your story, it seems like you have a undisplaced minor Jones fracture, which typically heals within 6-8 weeks. Thank you all in advance for your time.ĭepending on the extent of fracture in that area, what we call as Jones Fracture, and many other factors like displacement, soft tissue injury, age etc, healing times vary. I'm simply asking if the heal has anything at all to do with 5th metatarsal an has anyone else used the heel walking method? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not here to argue with anyone nor am I seeking medical advice. ![]() Is there anyone here who can help me? Also, in reading the forums I've notice a lot of critisism of other people posts. From what I have gathered, as long as I keep the weight on my heel I should not be putting and stress/pressure/weight on the metatarsal. ![]() My question is - would putting weight on my heel for short periods of time put any pressure on my 5th met? I've been looking at diagrams of the foot and doing a lot of ready on 5th met and the heel. There is not pain unless I put my foot all the way down. I've began putting weight on my heel for short periods of time. No pain and swelling has gone done about 85%. I suppose my 2nd visit was to make sure I didn't displace bone? So here I am and it's 3 weeks in. He said 2 weeks is too soon to see any progress. So, 2 weeks later after going back-doc X-rays me and tells me come back in 3 more weeks. Told me I had a jones fracture- and to come back in 2 weeks. Not friendly and seemed like he was just rushing me out. This time I was given boot (inflatable cam walker) after wrapping it in several ace bandages. I made an oppointment for a local podiatrist one day after. He said fracture didn't look bad and gave me splint and sent me on my way. Went to ER and locally there was a podiatrist nearby. I broke my 5th metarsal in my right foot will running about 3 weeks ago(bone is not displaced and did not receive any corrective surgery). ![]()
